Blog #3 Hard Ware and Computer Forensic

The topics covered in last week’s classes are hardware and computer forensic.  The discussion of hardware give me sort of idea how my device would be build. Since my device is a GPS like mobile device, it would need a NIC to connect to the internet, but the NIC would only keep the wireless component and abandon the wired connection socket. Moreover, the device would use an over-average graphic card that can display high solution pictures, because a better display screen would help us provide more accurate information.  Other than that, the device would be pretty much like a GPS or a smart phone. I’m thinking about incorporating the text message or voice message in this device, by doing that this device would provide not only first class of communication service (updates on line) but also second class communication service (the voice message and text message) and that would increase the interaction between users which would enhance our service.
The idea of computer forensic is new to me; I was not familiar to the process of computer forensic before the class. However, it did give me some insight about how to design my device and customer services.  The device would have a hard drive that contains the users’ information and since the computer forensic technique is able to recover all the information is a hard drive even the deleted information. It would be our responsibility to protect the information of our customers, and the crucial step is to prevent the device from exposing to the illegal identity thief.  So in order to do that, we would have a customer service team that take charge of the recycle of all the used devices and would destroy the informational storages in a proper way.

Blog #2 Social Media privacy and Excel techniques

Last week in class, Prof. Rubin talked about social media privacy which covered how we should protect our private information online and prevent sharing our confidential information.  Before we talk about this topic, the customer information security was not in my consideration for the business plan at all, however, after this class I realized how important online privacy is. Since the operation of my system would mostly base on information sharing for users, I think it’s really important to secure the users’ confidential information while some of their information is being shared.  For security sake, i would rather make the updates from the users anonymous so that we can make sure only the information we need are being shared, or maybe we can convert the user updates into digital data and interpret them in the internal system before they are sent to the individual users. After all, this class really gives me insight about the information security of my customers, and it’s really important.
Another thing we covered in last week s’ class is the excel spreadsheet technique. I found the excel spreadsheet is really useful in doing business especially when dealing with financial information. One thing great about the excel spread sheet is the way it can do the calculation while you plug in data, and this function would help companies to keep track of their financial situations. For my business, I believe if it’s practicable, it will be business that has large number of customers, and the number of transaction would be tremendous. For us to keep track of every transactions and financial activities, excel spreadsheet technique would be needed to make the data very clear and presentable.

My entrepreneurial idea

My entrepreneurial idea is to develop a parking navigation system. As we know, since New York supplies a lot of office buildings such as American express and the world trade district, there is always competition for parking, many new Yorkers have the same problem every day. And there are many parking lots that over charge these New Yorkers or commuters and get away with it. The parking issue not only causes inconvenient for the drivers, but also plays a big role in the city traffics, and it's harmful to the environment as well in the way the drivers may have to travel around to find parking spaces and thus produce more pollution gases. My parking navigation system will be a solution to the problems. This system would help direct drivers to open parking spaces without hassle and ease city traffics.

Basically, the navigation system is built upon computer-based and it will be connected to internet as well. First of all, the system will need a control center where all the information go in and out. In the center we will need a mainframe which is a large and power computer that can handle hundreds or thousands of connected users simultaneously to handle the information from the users.  Besides the mainframe, we will have client-side products which would be like a mobile device that can connect to the network of the system.

This idea is still in the very early stage of development. I don’t have a completely idea about how it will work, but roughly, i think i will utilize the social network as part of my system. I believe the instant social network will be helpful in the operation of this system, which i have an idea that users can use their social network account to log in the system and the update of the users would be the possible sources of information about the parking spaces. Moreover, I'm thinking about building the device into cars like how the GPS devices were embedded into cars. And information would be updated into the cloud and all the cars that have the device build in would get access to the information of the system.
